ATTENTION, PLEASE READ:
CSS Dixieland always works with soft (closed) text on screen, meaning that titles or captions appear as a layer on top of the image layer, preserving the original image without damage, and the text on screen can be easily turned on or off, or if available within the Matroska container, more than one text track can be chosen, for example for translations to different languages.
The solution of soft text on screen is opposed to the ordinary and brute method of hard (open) text on screen. This one inserts the text as permanent part of the image, therefore permanently DAMAGING the original image, besides making even tiny corrections of the text, as well as the removal or addition of new texts (such as translations to other languages) ugly and confusing.
Soft text on screen is technically THE BEST SOLUTION and it is always used in professional work, but it also needs some knowledge from the part of the viewer, and correct software. Professional players such as VLC of Video LAN can show internal text tracks in Matroska and external data sets containing text on screen, but it may be necessary to enable the function in the player.
It is also necessary to DOWNLOAD the .mkv Matroska container and the .ass Advanced Sub Station Alpha soft texts on screen (if more than one), and to store them in the same directory and with the same base name. The base name must be identical before the first dot, it can optionally specify the language, and it must end with the type suffix (extension) '.ass' as in this example:

In the example given above, 'walkyrie.mkv' is the Matroska container, 'walkyrie.english.ass' is text on screen in English, and 'walkyrie.deutsch.ass' is text on screen in German. Translations to hundreds of languages can be stored as internal tracks in the same Matroska, or as external data sets. The viewer chooses from a list shown by the player after having enabled the function of soft text on screen.
All of that requires some technical abilities that most content creators consider 'too sophisticated' for the general public. However, CSS Dixieland is not interested in the ignorant rabble and does not cater to them. CSS Dixieland always focuses on a select and intelligent minority unreachable to discouragement, possessing knowledge much more impressive than the simple learning of how to view soft text on screen.

The .ass Advanced Sub Station Alpha contains text on screen. It is plain text, it can be opened from any text editor or viewer capable of recognising Unicode UTF-8 character encoding, plus Carriage Return and Line Feed line break, which is the vast majority of text software currently in existence. In the .ass text on screen appears beside timing instructions, but the text can be read or extracted from the .ass, whose timing can also be used for translation to other languages.
